The aim of the workshop was to sensitize the army officers in the area on CTSAMVM’s Mandate and the provisions of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
50 senior and junior officers of the 9th Brigade of SSPDF’s 3rd Division particiapted in the workshop.
Opening the workshop, the 9th Brigade Commander, Brig Gen Joseph Mangar Chol said that he was happy that CTSAMVM had found time to travel to Gok Machar to deliver the contents of the peace agreement to his forces. He said that peace was the grease of the country and must be applied to all parts of the country.
The participants on the occasion aired their concerns on the slow pace of the peace agreement signed by all warring parties and the violations being witnessed in its implementation. They urged IGAD to ensure, based on CTSAMVM reports, that all parties are accountable for failure to safeguard the peace.
In his closing remarks, the Brigade Commander called on all his subordinate commanders to go and disseminate the information learnt on the revitalized peace agreement to all their fellow soldiers and directed them to abide by the agreement.
MVT Aweil has planned to conduct similar workshop to the remaining forces of SSPDF’s 3rd Division, Brigade 8A and 8B based in Umdhurman and War Ayen respectively during the month of November 2018.
