IDPs in Malakal PoC benefit from CTSAMVM’s community engagement workshop

CTSAMVM’s Malakal Monitoring and Verification Team held a community engagement workshop on 19 October 2018 at the Protection of Civilians (POC) site in the town.

28 Internally displaced persons (IDPs) sheltered at the POC site in Malakal took part in the workshop aimed at increasing public awareness on the ongoing peace process.

The participants were drawn from community representatives, members of security committee, women, youth and POC sector leaders.

Presentations and deliberations were made on the various peace agreements, the mandate and role of CTSAMVM, sexual and gender based violence, among others.

The participants thanked CTSAMVM for organising the workshop and requested for more such discussions. They also expressed commitment to convey the knowledge obtained from the workshop to the entire communities they represent.

The PoC is established by the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMIS) to protect about 30,000 vulnerable civilians displaced by fighting.
