CTSAMVM, UNMISS and Local Stakeholders join hands to raise awareness on peace deal

Integrated teams from CTSAMVM, UNMISS and local stakeholders in Terekeka, Aweil, Torit, Yei, Pibor and Leer are in full swing conducting workshops with the aim of engaging communities.

Workshops on the peace agreement were conducted from the end of August to 11 September 2018.

Workshop underway, Aweil

Workshop participants included youth and women groups, senior state government officials, representatives of political parties, members of the security forces and civil society as well as religious and community leaders.

The provisions of the various peace agreements signed by South Sudan Parties, the roles of CTSAMVM in monitoring, verification and reporting of compliance and/or non-compliance of the agreement, the obligations of the warring parties in the protection of civilians, provision of humanitarian access as well as protection against sexual gender based violence were highlights of the presentations and interactive discussions.Peace-building and conflict mitigation at the grassroots level was also presented by UNMISS.

Juba MVT had planned for 60 participants but the turn out upped to 238

Senior government officials who officiated the workshops stressed the serious lack of awareness among all stakeholders including those at the senior leadership level and encouraged CTSAMVM to organize similar workshops in future. They also encouraged the participants to pass the message to other people.

Apart from the English and Arabic versions of the peace agreement and the SGBV Brochure, CTSAMVM distributed summary translations of these documents in some local languages of South Sudan to the participants for ease of understanding.

“The civilians were burning with curiosity to know details about the peace. I thank CTSAMVM for this informative day and for the tireless devotion and effort to bring peace and stability to the country.”
