Chairman’s Trip To Malakal, Wau and Aweil

On the 8 – 9th of May 2017, the CTSAMM Chairperson, Major General Molla Hailemariam visited the Monitoring and Verification Teams (MVTs) in Malakal, Wau and Aweil to present medals to outgoing monitors who will soon be exiting the mission having concluded their one year rotation. The CTSAMM Chairperson met with the team members before the medal ceremony to thank them for the service and to gather firsthand information regarding their experiences in the mission and the challenges they face in fulfilling the CTSAMM mandate.

The CTSAMM Chairperson was also greeted by the UNMISS Head of Field Office in each location and had the opportunity to thank them for the essential support UNMISS give to CTSAMM in housing and providing the much needed force protection to the CTSAMM MVTs.

The monitors leaving the mission come from a range of countries including Djibouti, Sudan, and Ethiopia reflecting the international composition of the CTSAMM. The CTSAMM Chairperson remarked on the importance of the monitors’ role in restoring peace and stability to the nation of South Sudan.
